Nothing says it can't accomplish both. This one may be OK. From what I've seen it looks promising. ('course it isn't hard to come up with a trailer that looks decent, even from a turd of a film, so take that as you will)

That isn't anything new I think. Pretty sure there have been stories that involved Tony Stark's father being involved in the creation of Cap'n America.

So far for me, X-Men First Class is hands down the best Super Hero movie of the summer.

I have high hope for Captain America, its looks like a great period piece and another piece of The Avengers puzzle put into play.

When you say "Dr Mengele"... both the character list for this film and the Wikipedia article for 'Captain America' both say "Dr Abraham Erskine"... I'm just wondering where you got Mengele from.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the original comic book doctor was meant to be Mengele, but I would find it extremely distasteful if they portrayed him in a film like this as being a more-than-average 'good guy'.

From what I understand (and I am no Comic Historian), in the first book it was "Dr. Mengele". Very quickly, the publishers realized that even in the political climate of the 1940's that was in bad taste so it was almost immediately retcon'd. "Mengele" became a code-name and the scientist was renamed "Dr. Erskine".

For what it's worth they had to mess even more with the origin story over the years. Once the Comic Code came in to effect they couldn't have a hero who got his abilities from a drug -- even if it was Super-Serum -- so the serum had to become a ray gun.

I'd like to know how many drug dealers/users have been arrested who were inspired to start dealing/using by the origin story of Captain America.
