It looks like a bigger load of bollocks than ever. 1 was ok (I have it on DVD), 2 had its ok moments, 3 was a waste of time, and between the 2-line summary I heard for 4 and that trailer, it sounds like Resident Evil meets the Underworld series. The whole spin manoeuvre on a lycan just reeks of the CGI-tastic manoeuvre out of Iron Man 2 that Black Widow does.

About her outfit - I wonder if the idea of character development has occurred to the screenwriters? At the end of 1, Selene should have been wanting to cut all ties with the vampires, and yet in 4 she's still wearing the uniform. At the end of 2, there was a hole in that uniform - does she have a stash of immensely practical PVC catsuits and corsets somewhere just in case?

I bet if they could make more money by making a **** film with an Underworld theme, they would have done.

- edit - that last sentence is an exaggeration because it would kill the 'normal' careers of anyone in the production because of the way Hollywood is, but I was thinking about the likely artistic and creative merits of this film.

Yup, there is a reason the film is being made and it isn't due to wanting to "tell a story".

Be loud, be sexy and be in 3D. I just wonder how many of these things have to do 'just OK' before they quit making them. I think it is a matter of just knowing what else to do. Hollywood makes fluff. Its what they know and they have a hard time moving outside of their comfort zone.

(Maybe her outfit is made from the skins of her victims and it heals! Yeah! That'd be cool! )

I just can't believe there are that many people who are willing to pay for a trip to the cinema and drool (mentally speaking, not sexually) in front of the screen for 2 hours when they could have done that at home (and frankly, what does it matter if it's a new or old film if switching off your brain completely for 2 hours is something you regularly want to do).

For example, those spoof films made by the people who made Scary Movie - they regularly get ratings of less than 5 on IMDB (and usually if a film has a rating lower than 5 it is complete dross), and yet they continue being made, which must mean that they generate a profit.

Well the first one made a tidy profit I think and rightfully so, one of the better spoof films since Naked Gun, and that means the execs are willing to take a chance at a third or fourth thinking they can hit the mark again. Problem is, lightening rarely strikes the same spot twice. Though in the defense of Hollywood, the sequels typically get smaller and smaller budgets and lesser known "stars", by the time you get to the 4th film in a comedy franchise you are lucky to find the youtube sensation of two years ago, so they have much less to lose. (Other than our respect)

I actually have Scary Movie 1 on DVD as well :) But there have been something like six further spoof movies from these guys, and at least the last three sucked.

<a quick IMDB search later>

Scary Movie: 6.0 rating
Scary Movie 2: 4.8 (I watched this and found no further reason to continue watching movies from these guys)
Scary Movie 3: 5.3
Date Movie: 2.6
Scary Movie 4: 5.0
Epic Movie: 2.2
Meet the Spartans: 2.5
Disaster Movie: 1.7
Vampires S***: 3.2
Scary Movie 5 is on the way apparently.

Surely Hollywood execs are perfectly aware that movies with low budgets rarely are successful (beyond the bottom line that is), unless of course they're independent movies.

The bottom line is all they are concerned with. Any one of them that tell you that they are trying to produce good stories is either lying or disillusioned. (They have told themselves it enough that they actually believe it)
