X-Rated Bloodsuckers
By Mario Acevedo
Amazon.com LinkFirst off this book has nothing to do with pron other than a murder took place within the industry of carnal delights. Bloodsuckers is also the second book from author Mario Acevedo.
Mario Acevedo’s first book The Nymphos of Rocky Flats introduced the character of Felix Gomez, a US soldier that went to Iraq and came back a Vampire. Bloodsuckers continues the story of Felix Gomez as he has become a Private Detective.
What makes this book interesting is that its done in that old style Detective fiction works of the 1920’s & 1930 but in a contemporary setting and the fact that the main character is a Vampire makes for a unique twist on the genre. Often called Hardboiled Crime Fiction, this literary style pioneered by Dashiell Hammett in the late 1920s and refined by Raymond Chandler beginning in the late 1930s. Hardboiled fiction, most commonly associated with detective stories, is distinguished by an unsentimental portrayal of crime, violence, and sex.
An example of this literary style would be something like:
The dame walked into my office and right away I knew she was trouble by the way she walked. With her puffy red lips and swinging hips she was the type that always got her way and who was I to be the first to tell her no. Besides I needed the money.Acevedo’s writing style is easy to read and the story line flows very well, there are no slow parts and the story is very engaging.
Like the example above Felix Gomez is visited by Katz Meow, a pron star who’s best friend Roxy Bronz (Also a pron star) was murdered and she wants to know who did it and why its being covered up. Felix agrees to take the case, but as with any detective novels worth their salt there is much more to the story than a simple murder mystery.
Nope, poor Felix soon finds himself embroiled in a huge mystery than spans more than the pron industry, but also real estate, corrupt politicians and Vampire/Human collusions are among some of the interesting ties that are all mixed up in this case and it doesn’t take long for Felix to start poking his nose around where someone doesn’t want it and Felix finds himself target for murder himself.
This is really the first Vampire story that I know of that really plays off the fact that while Vampires do have some extraordinary powers, but they also posses a number of weaknesses that can make things that much more difficult for them. Also, I had no idea that the invention of Sun Block would be a boon for Vampires as it now allowed them out during the day. Who knew?
This book has it all, a well written mystery that has you guessing until very close to the end, action, silver bullets, Vampires against Vampire fighting, shape shifting, romance, corruption, chase scenes and just a small touch of erotica that doesn’t distract from the story. All in all, a very entertaining read that I would recommend to anyone over the age of lets say 17. If this book was a movie, I think it would be rated R or NC-17.
You don’t necessarily need to read the first book before enjoying Bloodsuckers. This book stands on its own, but it’s good enough that it makes me want to go back and read the first book. So if your interested in the series, you might as well start with Nympho’s.
I would rate X-Rated Bloodsuckers a solid 4 out of 5 possible tasty looking necks.
A very good addition to both the Detective and Vampire genres. If you come across either of these book by Mr. Acevedo, pick one up and give it a try, I think you will be very suprised at how enertaining his writing is.
