Depp to star in "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" reimagining?

Based on the 70′s horror show, Night Stalker would be produced by Disney according to the Hollywood Reporter. Depp is attached to play the title role (Darren McGavin played him in the ’70s TV version) and serve as the project’s producer. Edgar Wright is currently in negotiations to direct the film.

This should also help expose people to the original TV series which is one of my all time favorites.

That is always the argument but.. I don't know. I'm just unsure of Depp. Maybe he could do it.. I just think he will either take it too seriously or make him into H.S. Thompson.

I'm not in love with the Depp casting either but even the crappy 2005 Kolchak reboot with Stuart Townsend got more folks aware of the '74 original.

Did it? Maybe. Now that I think of it that is when I started seeing Kolchak comics, etc.

It's a gamble, but if it keeps Kolchak alive and well...
