Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games is starting the weekend with some record-breaking numbers.

Its opening $19.75 box office result from 2,565 midnight locations set the record for all-time highest-grossing non-sequel midnights ever. It’s also the 7th highest midnight gross of all time. It’s also the highest IMAX non-summer non-holiday 2D opening of all time.

I was underwhelmed. While I liked it, it was nothing special in either plot, effects, set design, or acting. Not a bad film, just not a great one. Battle Royale from back in 2000 is on it's way to me from Netflix. This is the film people claim the Hunger Games movie and books ripped off. We'll see.

Well, a lot of people think differently than Mbd.. The Hunger Games took in $33.5 million to top the box office for the third straight weekend. The film has made $302.8 million domestically in its three weeks of release and is the top grossing movie of the year so far.
I've also read that globally it is topping out at over $460 million.
