The movie 9 (not to be confused with District 9), is... well it is about something, I'm just not sure what.

Partially from the mind of Tim Burton (more on this in a bit), it is about this little clockwork that wakes up to see the world, no, not world, the maybe 1-mile square, area around him is not what it should be. From IMDB - A post-apocalyptic nightmare in which all of humanity is threatened.

Wow, sounds huge doesn't it. Hope you don't want to see the rest of the world outside of this little area that the creators deemed the world. I'm not kidding here. Other than a few news flashes, the entire story revolves around these small clockworks, about 6 inches tall give or take, their finding each other, and how they live, change, and decide to move along in changing things. Oh yea, and it all takes place in this one area that is so small it is laughable and totally ruins the immersion of what has happened being this huge global catastrophe.

The voice cast is pretty much all done by A-List actors, and they do a good job with it. There wasn't a spot where it seemed they were phoning in a recording just to get a paycheck. Maybe if they would of the movie would of been a bit more interesting.

At the conclusion, I sat there wondering how this was supposed to all tie together, the whole thing is a disjointed mess (oh yea, save humanity, you will laugh when you figure this one out), and the ending just all of a sudden ends, trying to provoke feelings of sadness and hope, yet fails if you take just a sec to look at what just happened.

Back to Tim Burton real quick. While his name is on the cover, it looks more like it was thrown there because he either a) funded it or b) to get a known name on it, which I think could of been done better by listing the voice talent. He is one of the Producers for the movie, and if you are familiar with his other works, you can tell that his input was quite limited.

Overall, I really didn't like it, and when the credits rolled just had this feeling that there should of been, and should be a whole lot more to the movie. Save this one for a maybe if you are REALLY bored and want to see some neat animation, while it isn't anything that we haven't seen before, it is top notch (from the same studio as Coraline), but good animation can't save a movie as, well, annoying as this one.
