New show on, and made by, ABC. Not sure what night it is on to be honest.
The show wasn't too bad. The premise, if you have seen any commercials like, well ever on ABC, is that everyone on the planet has a 2 minute and 17 second blackout, but during that time they all saw 2 minutes and 17 seconds of their future approximately 6 months from now.
Now the neat part of the pilot is that they actually deal with what would happen if everyone blacked out at the same time. Highways, trains, airplanes, surgery's, all those have people running the show, and you can just imagine what happened.
The story is focused on the FBI and 2-4 agents in particular (and their families for the most part). The lead is played quite well by
Joseph Fiennes (brother of Ralph), and if he looks familiar, but you can't place him, he played Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love (he covers his accent quite well). These FBI agents are not only running the investigation of why the blackout and memories happened, but they have also set up a website to spider through to see if there is a connection in all the stories.
The pilot was pretty good I have to say. There are a lot of people trying to compare it to Lost, which isn't quite fair (though the kangaroo did make me wonder). So far this doesn't look like it's going to go as far out there as Lost has (deep end anyone?). Sadly the writing, while top notch in the pilot, took a nose dive about half way through the second episode, it did redeem itself in the last 10 minutes or so though (haven't watched the third yet).
On the note of the creator, it is being done by David Goyer. Now if his name sounds familiar, it's because he did the Batman movies. He's also doing Y The Last Man, but that is another post.
So far we like it, and are going to give it another couple of episodes at least. We just really hope that the writing goes back up and doesn't stay at the craptastic levels it went to in the second episode.
