Nasa World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there.

Virtually visit any place in the world. Look across the Andes, into the Grand Canyon, over the Alps, or along the African Sahara.World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Its a lot like Google Earth, except you can view weather patterns in real time and many other cool features.

You can also explore Mars and the Moon in a Google Earth style graphic engine and you get a truly impressive star map system.

Go here to download

Its one impressive piece of software and its FREE!!!!! 8)

Cool, I just found that Jupiter and Venus are in there as well.

I downloaded the program several times, but each time I did so it wouldn't open properly. I did download DirectX and Net.2 as instructed, so apparently that wasn't what caused the problem.

Anybody know what I might have done wrong?

Give me more information, list your systems specs, OS and what specifically happens when you try to run the program.

My OS is Windows XP Professional

I clicked on the download link in the post above.

I was directed to download DirectX and then .net 2.

A window said that the World Wind download was successful.

I tried to open it and it said something like, "NASA World Wind has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please forgive the inconvenience."

This happened every time I tried to open it. What did I do wrong?

I'm a bit challenged when it comes to this stuff, I'm afraid. Give me some guidance on how to find what kind of video card I have.

Sorry I'm such a low-tech type. I appreciate your help.

There are a couple of ways to see:

1) Right Click on your Desktop and then click on Properties. ON the window that opened up you should see an "Advanced" button, click on that to get a new window. One of the tabs on that window should tell you what your video card is.

2) Open your Control Panel, right click on the system Icon and then Properties, find the Device Manager button and click on that. In the device manager find the listing for "Display Adapter" Open that up and tell me what it says.
