Fifty years ago today, President Eisenhower signed public law 85-568 creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and for the first time turned space exploration and research from being strictly a military affair into a civilian one. As we all know, little more than ten years after its inception NASA succeeded in exploring the moon as well as launching robotic probes to all the planets of the inner solar system.
