This current downturn isn't just national. It isn't even global. It's now interplanetary!
Jupiter's Great Red Spot Is ShrinkingThe famous Great Red Spot, a cyclonic storm that has raged on Jupiter for at least 300 years, has been slowly shrinking for more than a decade. Analysis of data from 1996 to 2006 show that the storm has downsized by 15% over that time period although the windspeed has remained steady. The meteorology behind this and other changes to the wind patterns on Jupiter may indicate that the middle latitudes of the planet are entering a "summer" season. As the equator warms and the south pole cools, what once appeared to be stable weather patterns are thrown into upheaval as they jostle to redistribute the sun's heat around the planet.
