In another thread someone commented on the recent competition the USA has been experiencing for the exploration of space.

Here is a video sent back a few day ago by the Japanese probe JAXA Kaguya as it circles the moon in a polar orbit about 100KM up. This is the first High Definition TV video ever sent back from space (although you can't prove that by YouTube :() and, I believe, the first video fly over of the Lunar north pole since all the Apollo orbits were equatorial.

Wonder if there will be any future HD shots of the Apollo landing sites? That would be cool and cause those nay-sayers to sit down.

I also liked the earth-rise still. In it, a region of the moon's surface near its north pole is shown. The Arabian Peninsula and Indian Ocean can be observed on the Earth. Credit: JAXA/NHK

Nice find, Cybermonk!

Absolutely spectacular clips.

The crossing from light into shadow felt kinda creepy.
