Filming began earlier today on the first adventures to feature 11th Doctor Who, Matt Smith.

The new costume, which will be worn by Matt Smith in the role as the famous Timelord consists of tweed jacket, bow tie, rolled up trousers and black boots.

Smith will take over the role of Doctor Who from David Tennant, whose last adventures will be seen over the Christmas Holidays.

“I feel very privileged and proud to be part of this iconic show,” Smith said in interview for BBC news.

“The scripts are brilliant – I’m excited about the future and all the brilliant adventures I get to go on as the Doctor.”

Joining the Doctor for his 13 new 45 minute adventures will be new companion Amy Pond who will be played by newcomer Karen Gillan, who meets the Timelord in the opening episode of the series.

There are also big changes happening behind the cameras. These include the much anticipated addition of Stephen Moffat who takes over the day to day production and writing of the show from departing showrunner Russell T. Davies. Joining Moffat are Tracie Simpson who was producer on the Doctor Who Easter Special Planet Of The Dead, and Torchwood Children Of Earth producer Peter Bennett.

“Matt and Karen are going to be incredible, and Doctor Who is going to come alive on Saturday nights in a whole new way,” Moffat said.

Looks rather Patrick Troughton-ish. Which is not such a bad thing for me. So long as they don't turn the whole thing into Twilight. Come on Stephen Moffat!! I'm pulling for you!!

i like the guy himself i think matt will make a good doctor although im really not sure about that outfit, tweed and bow tie kinda makes him look likw hes trying to be older when the one thing that russel t davies said he thought was a good thing was that matt looked young as it was thought that doctor who now needed to be a little younger so to give the series the feel of being able to run for some time without having to refresh the main characters face after 3 seasons... mc_coy wore a similar outfit and he in my oppinion was the worst of all 11 doctors... give him something else maybe a leather 3 full length jacket and a trillby lol at leat that way we could see some kind of proggression from the 9th and his shorter leather coat to tennants long mack type coat then to a full length leather....
it would give him a little style which none of the doctors have ever really had in the clothing dept...
dave tennant was by farthe best doctor he played the part in such a way that he made you believe that all the rubbish he was spouting was really true even if u knew for sure he was talking rubbish...didnt matter he was the doctor and he knows best so must be you thats wrong... he embodied everything that the doctor should be, acted the part so well was voted best male lead in uk tv drama awards 2 yrs running and had a 3rd award in diff cattegory year after.... he will be sorely missed and i just hope that the first episode to feature matt as doctor number 11 has a very strong storyline because if he doesnt shine through he will fail at the firt hurdle with all the hardcore fans simply saying he isnt as good as tennant...
i wish him all the luck in the worl but i feel he has such larg tardis to fill with tennants shadow always looming over him he simply wont be able to get past all the bad comments he will innevitablly recieve from day one...

I'm with you Siskor.
Like I said I'm ready for a new Doctor, but I agree he is going to have a hard time being accepted if the first story isn't really, really good. But..he has Moffat in his corner so that has a pretty good chance of happening.

Oh, and Welcome!
