The recent live-action remake of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (and more likely, its $1 billion worldwide gross) has convinced Warner Bros. Pictures and producer Dan Jinks they should do the same with Pinocchio. Variety reports that Jinks is overseeing the live-action take of Carlo Collodi's classic novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio," which was published in 1883.
"I think we've found a fresh approach that's going to be very entertaining," Jinks told the trade.
Screenwriter Bryan Fuller has been charged to flesh out the story for the studio.
This isn't the only Disney classic that other houses are looking to show in a different live-action light. Fairy tales like Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Hansel & Gretel are likewise seeing remakes with different demographics in mind.
