Dont know if theres another thread discussing this but I couldnt find one.

Anyway, I must be the only disappointed person I know. Nobody else watching it with me has even seen a page of the comic and they all think its great fun. I find it deeply irritating that it barely resembles the comic at all. How could they have gone to the trouble of finding great actors that really do look like the characters they are playing and then blow the story line completely out of the window?!

As a standalone zombie series its pretty good. The effects and make-up are second to none. The zombies are excellent apart from that bit where one jumped and climbed over a fence but I can excuse that....just. Beyond that practically none of the main events in the early comics have been shown.

I understand that they couldnt follow the comic story to the letter and have to tone down the brutality of it by a long old stretch but in the last episode we have some guy in a lab....wtf now??!

Ok rant over. You may begin flaming.

Interesting. I have the books, but have not read them due to the fact that I didn't want any spoilers.
The final episode is on the DVR and will be watched ASAP..

I'm looking forward to watching AND reading. Curious to see how my feelings will be on the conversion from print to film.

I'll be interested to see what you think. I wouldnt worry about spoilers but just in case I'd wait as theres only 1 ep left to see anyway. So far I can think of only 4 particular incidents that the series has had right and one of the biggest bombshells from the first few issues has been completely bypassed. IMO its an absolutely essential part of the development of one of the main characters. You'll see what when you read it and until then I'll say nothing.

I couldnt stop reading the graphic novel until I was completely up to date with it and am now gutted I have to wait so long for what I can easily get through in 20 mins each time its released. :o/

I really miss those characters as they were a daily part of my life for quite a while when I was reading it.

You must have been really mad when you read the James Bond books then. :-x

Seriously, I bet fewer than 1% of the viewing public even know what a 'Graphic Novel' is, and of those who think they do, most confuse it with a comicbook. The 'Walking Dead' is primetime entertainment, not a homage to a novel no one ever heard of , much less read.

I'm not a lover of zombie movies, or gratuitous gore in general, but I think that the series has good characters, excellent actors, first class makeup, a thought provoking story, and (for TV) adequate SFX.

Yup. Regardless of what my opinion may be of the books may be, I have thoroughly enjoyed the series.

Yes, they've deviated significantly from the original books, but it's all been done with Kirkman's blessing and has resulted in what I consider to be a stellar series. There are some creators who are just in it for the cash, but The Walking Dead TV series still feels like it takes place in the same universe as the books.

The most important things are still there, though. The universe/environment rings true with the source material and the characters are all staying true to who they are in the books. I find myself excited that they've diverted from the text so drastically because while I know the characters, I'm back in the dark with everyone else watching the show. Kirkman and Frank Darabont have found a way for me to visit the Walking Dead universe again for the first time. That's a rare and special gift as far as I'm concerned.

It's worth noting that I'm writing this without having seen the final episode yet. I'll get to it tomorrow night.

I just dont understand such a huge deviation from the original story. Theres no reason I can see for doing it this way unless they want some sort of closure at the end of the first series.

Honestly, they could have done the
Click to Read Spoiler:
prison
storyline and left it before the point when
Click to Read Spoiler:
they get attacked by the other group of people
and that would have been closure enough.

Im enjoying it but I'll reserve final judgement for the final episode.

I am a huge fan of this show, I have the last episode to watch now.
The reason I love this show so much maybe because I have not read any of the comics.

Everybody knows that the books/comics/novels are always better than the tv adaptations. When we read it, we are able to create landscapes, faces and emotions in our imagination but when it is put on TV it is a manifestation of sombody else's imagination and some people find that hard to adjust to, especially after reading it.

I think I will read the comics after I have watched the series to see how it compares. But really enjoying the series so far :) Some pretty deep issues, cliffhangers etc. (Where is Merle????) (What happened to Father and Child Morgan and Duane?) I look forward to the next episode everytime.

On another note... it is called The Walking Dead, But I have seen them running, jogging, climbing even trying to open doors!!!
Would make things alot easier if they could only just walk hahaha. Title misled me :^o

I saw the final episode last night, and the route they went makes a lot of sense to me. They only got 6 episodes for the first season and there were no promises of it getting a second. I've done a bit of research and Darabont wanted to end the season this way so there would be some closure for the audience if they didn't get a second season.

The finale wasn't the best episode of the season, but it was still interesting. If you've read the comics, you've also probably got a good idea of what the doc told Rick before they left. It seems to me like this is a temporary detour and they've set it up perfectly to head make their way to the prison and have all the drama of the comics.

I'm taking it that they want to do the proper story justice and didn't feel like they could accomplish that in 6 episodes, so they went this route instead.

My guess?

LOL @ Mulli88. Merle never featured in the novel at all and you do indeed find out what happened to Morgan and his son. Its pretty harrowing.

I can already imagine what they did with the final episode but I still think they could have had some sort of closure with them finding and clearing out the prison but I understand why they have done what they have done.

Well, I will be hitting the books now. Watched the finale episode last night.

Regardless of whether or not it deviated from the source material, it was 6 episodes of a fun, interesting and even a little thought provoking series.

They have managed to (mostly) surprise me at every turn. Every time I thought they where going down the same old roads they flipped the story and did exactly what I thought they wouldn't do.

Fun series.

Remember...We aren't here for the eggs!
