Into this!

I was a bit worried about going away from ff and back to a crop camera, but apart from having less DoF control the image quality is actualy better in some ways.

1) 16mp (With weak AA filter) v 12mp (with strong AA filter) means it captures alot more details.
2) iso 80 allows the camera to capture amazing amount of dynamic range (Way more than the d3). You have to shoot raw and push the shadows but... push them you can!
3) similar high iso noise.
4) in body image stabilisation, non of my nikon lens had VR so that would have been an expensive upgrade. (works in video to!)
5) 1080p video which is really sharp and lots of dynamic range (adjust jpg settings to get the best out of it)
6) the ability to shift the sensor to capture image data from other parts of the lens/scene without moving the camera)

as for the non image stuff, the body is much smaller and just as well built (in my opinion), the focus isn't as sophisticated (no 3d tracking.. less af points) but its much better than pentax's other units and feels just as accurate and as snappy as the nikon and works well in low light to.

And to go with the new camera my wife got me a new bag!... (and i got some new lens and flash blabla) So all this...

:D

I still have lots of other stuff like old m42 lens, manual flash, radio triggers.. studio flash's stands blabla as well as a gf1 and the old gx10 body.. I can't believe that the first time I ever seen anything about lens was on 3dgpu. And I remember thinking.. my god, how can someone spend so much on a piece of glass. Now I understand.. and look what has happened. :)

That's awesome. It's amazing the value you get with Pentax bodies.
I've love to get the K-5 to upgrade my K10D, but I couldn't justify it right now. Hopefully some day soon as it would be quite the upgrade.

Happy shooting

It is quite an upgrade over the k10d (i still have my gx10).

Don't get me wrong, the k10d still has amazing image quality.. very sharp and theres just something nice about the way the ccd sensor handles things.

But the k5 is amazing, iso 80 shots have an almost limitless dynamic range (you can recover shadow details till they are almost white!) and its auto focus is better/faster.

But still, at base iso if you dont need the extra dynamic range the k10d can still hold its own, you might not get as much fine detail (because of the lower mp) but its not that far away tbh as the k5 has a stronger AA filter. Both the k10d and the k5 have alot of purple fringing though.. something the k20d and k7 has very little off :)
